Rescue Pack – Pasta (and other stuff) for Pick Up – Dani Valent

No pasta at the shops? Some of Melbourne’s best restaurants are coming to the rescue! Please call ahead to order your amazing pasta (plus other stuff) for pick up.

Most of the listings below are for the collection of fresh, uncooked pasta. Did you know fresh, uncooked pasta can be frozen, and cooked directly from the freezer?

We now have produce listings on this page too: take me there.

Kitchenette, HAWTHORN
Got pasta, need sauce? Kitchenette is the sweetest, nicest cafe. In my review I said, Simple food, done perfectly. “We have excellent supplies of bolognese sauce (meat from our butcher Donati’s),” says owner Megan. “Jenna will be making lasagne too. Give us a ring to confirm what pasta sauces we have available each day.” If you order 10 tubs you get 10% off. Phone (03) 9939 9340.

Vaporetto, HAWTHORN

In good times, Vaporetto is a little slice of Venice just behind Glenferrie Road. Right now, they need you to buy pasta from them. No hardship! It’s great stuff. They’re packing up tagliatelle, spaghetti, casareccia, orecchiette and GLUTEN-FREE gnocchi. The 500g tubs feed 4 ($9.50). Chef Greg Feck says they’re all extruded daily and are fine to freeze. There are two cook-at-home pasta dishes too. Baked Ziti and Rigatoncini with Vodka Sauce (um, yes, make mine a double). Full takeaway menu here. Order online capitano.com.au.

District North                    The Arancini Lady

Normally these guys do events but that’s not happening much these days…sooooo you better buy their lovely rigatoni, casarecce, fettuccine, spaghetti and fusilli (500g for $9) or go big on arancini – there’s vegan pumpkin ($38 for 18) and bolognese ($36 for 18).

Fresh fettuccine, spaghetti and gnocchi – YUM. This is normally one of the busiest spots in Carlton – it’s a bloody institution. Why wouldn’t you want a bit of DOC magic at home? They’re doing fettuccine and spaghetti (1 kg, $22.90) and gnocchi (1 kg, $29.90) for pick-up. Phone (03) 9347 8482.

Faye, BRUNSWICK

I’m so heartbroken that this new indie restaurant has hit such hard times so early in its sweet life. Help them out by ordering fresh or frozen filled pasta ($15/250gm/approx. 15 pieces). You can have either pumpkin and brown butter ravioli, or black pudding agnolotti. If you need to add sauce, there’s reheatable braised silverbeet pesto and a smoked mushroom and chicken broth with smoked Swiss brown mushrooms.

MELBOURNE – CBD

Becco, CITY

In an effort to retain as many staff as possible during this crisis, Becco is reopening its long-departed (and much-loved) produce store from Monday March 23.

Owner Simon Hartley was chatting to Bronwyn from Dobson’s Potatoes the other day. “I realised there was a need to try and help replace potato sales due to low demand from restaurants in the CBD, and offered to sell them from Becco. Then the idea took off and here we are! We’ll be stocking dried and fresh pasta, Baker Boys bread, olive oils, fresh produce etc, plus our kitchen will be making stocks, sauces and ready meals. All the essentials, plus wine and all you need to make that Negroni or Quarantini. In the spirit of sustainability, we encourage our customers to bring their own containers, which the chefs can fill for them. Anything on the menu will be available to take home. We intend to enforce strict social distancing and hygiene practices within the store at all times.”
