Chatting vessels on ABC Afternoons – Dani Valent

I love dropping into ABC Radio Melbourne to chat about food with Clare Bowditch and her lovely talkback audience. This time we discussed the importance of vessels, cutlery and the devilishness of forks. Do you have a favourite spoon or teacup? Do you think it matters? Listen in.

A few fun facts:

  • ‘Bone’ china has cow bone ash in it – 30% is considered high quality.
  • Korean designer Jinhyun Jeon has designed multisensory cutlery with spikes and bumps.
  • In Ethiopia, food is placed on injera, a fermented flatbread that becomes a kind of plate.
  • Apparently there were 100 pairs of grape scissors and 400 asparagus forks on the Titanic.
  • Forks only became common in medieval times…
What are your favourite vessels? Let me know in the comments below.
